As more than 5,000 messages go out with opinions and invites to participate, a lot of noise comes back, thankfully. Here are a few notes from the messages at the end of Feb 2004 as we come to grips with the closed status of the swim pools and recreation centers.

Lance: to Pittsburgh City Council. It decides to spend $300,000 -- supposedly to be generated by freezing the wages of nonunion employees -- to reopen 11 city swimming pools this summer: We have nothing against kids or swimming pools. But that money would be better spent figuring out a way to privatize the pools and operate them more efficiently.
